Fun and refreshments

Thornton Fields is the recreation centre of the southern half of Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

The path that runs north west along the island has climbing ropes, climbing walls and a playground for kids, as well as small cafe kiosks selling drinks and snacks.

When the fountains are playing, many families simply sit in the sunshine and relax.

Going south east you can get refreshments at the Podium Bar & Kitchen and take a trip up the ArcelorMittal Orbit.

On either side of the bridge you crossed are information boards about the international plants which are planted there.

The AcelorMittal Orbit is both a sculpture and a popular viewing platform. You can ride the lift up to the top, and then come down a corkscrew slide around the outside to get back to the ground. Click here to find out about booking tickets.
